Saint Toribio of Mogrovejo
Saint Toribio of Mogrovejo
Toribio of Mogrovejo’s (1538 – 1606) life journey took him on a very winding road. He was a scholar and professor of law at a Spanish university before becoming a judge of the Inquisition. When he was appointed Archbishop of Lima, Peru, Toribio reluctantly agreed to take the office. As archbishop, he had to deal with abuses among the clergy, as well as widespread oppression of the native people. God lovingly guided Turibius in his difficult responsibilities. God leads us, also, where we are needed and where we are meant to be in the divine plan of the formation of God’s new creation.
