Saint Katherine Drexel
Katharine Drexel (1858 – 1955), who grew up in Philadelphia, was taught by her parents to share what she had in order to help those who are in need. She did this gladly, especially after seeing the suffering caused by the Civil War and two World Wars. After her parents died, her inheritance enabled her to continue to serve the poor by opening schools for children who otherwise would not receive an education. As others joined her in her work, she established the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, who continue her ministry today. Each of us has some gift we can offer for others. Let us watch today for such opportunities that may come our way.
