Every pilgrim walks the labyrinth as a reflection of his or her unique journey, wherever they happen to be. What you get out of the labyrinth depends a lot on what you bring to it. One can experience this prayer walk as a quieting and centering tool; with a decision to make or a question to ask; release from tension; looking for insight and strength; for conversation with God; as a way to healing and working through grief; holding a Scripture Word in the heart to listen to along the way; seeking help or guidance; for a time of contemplative awareness... Try one of the following!

  • Walk With a Word of Scripture
Choose a passage or a line from Scripture to read before your walk. As you walk to the center, reflect on the meaning of the Word for your life. As you spend time at the center, allow the Word to deepen and to take root in you. As you walk back out, trust in the Word you have received, and allow it to transform the way you live.

  • Walk With a Feeling
Take time to become aware of what you are feeling most at this time: joy, fear, anger, gratitude, anxiety, peace, grief, longing, lost... Walk with a conscious awareness of this feeling, allowing the feeling to teach you what you need to know about your life right now.

  • Walk With a Question
Is there a question that has been on your mind that has no simple or easy answer? Walk with this question! Allow the question to move from your head, to your heart, to your gut. Don't try to form an answer! Simply listen, and allow an answer - if it is the time for one - to emerge from the deepest part of you.

  • Walk With a Mantra
Walking the labyrinth can be a very centering experience. Praying by repeating a mantra or a word from Scripture over and over again can quiet our restless minds, disposing us to focus and to listen more deeply to what God wants to say to our hearts. Praised be the Incarnate Word... Come, Jesus, Come... Lord, that I may see... O God, be merciful to me, a sinner... Be still, and know that I am God... are examples of mantras that may be meaningful.

  • Walk With an Attitude of Adoration
Walk with loving awareness of the One who is walking with you. Let whatever thoughts, feelings or images of your life simply present themselves, and then let them go. Be attentive to the One who is present to you as you journey, and walk together in silence.

  • Walk With a Need
Bring whatever is weighing on your heart to your prayer - a need, a struggle, a loss, a special intention, concern for a friend or family member.... As you walk, present your need to God in an open heart, and trust that the One who journeys with you hears your needs.

  • Simply Walk
Simply walk, aware of where you are at this time on your life journey. Listen to the path and let the path be your teacher! Notice what you notice!
